Panels

Take a step towards grid independence by generating your own electricity with solar panels.

Solar Photovoltaics (Solar PV) form a pivotal part of the government drive to widen access to low running costs and low carbon electricity generation.

Solar PV currently represents one of the best return on investments and can save you a considerable amount of money per year as well as saving the planet.

How Do Solar (Photovoltaic) Arrays Work?

Solar panels use silicon cells framed in aluminium to generate electricity when exposed to sunlight a process known as the photovoltaic effect. These cells create direct current (DC) electricity, which is then sent to an inverter that converts it into alternating current (AC), making it usable for your home appliances.

A typical system includes roof-mounted panels, an inverter, and a generation meter. Once converted, the electricity flows to your property’s electrical distribution board to power your home. Any excess energy you don’t use is automatically fed back into the grid.

For best performance, panels should be installed on a south-facing roof with minimal shading from nearby buildings or trees.

At Griffiths, we use high-quality PV panels and inverters. For existing buildings, systems are usually mounted on top of the current roof. New builds can opt for either on-roof or integrated in-roof systems for a cleaner, seamless finish.

On roof panel design

On roof panel design

Perfect retrofit solution any property and roof. This requires placing & securing brackets and rails onto the roof and fixing the panels to this. This allows any property to generate savings.

In-roof panel design

In-roof panel design

Offer a sleek, minimalist design that blends seamlessly into your roof. Perfect for modern and new build spaces, they enhance aesthetics while delivering high performance. Plus, because they replace traditional roofing materials, they can save you money on roof tiles.

Benefits of Solar Panels:

Lower energy Bills – Helping you save hundreds per year on your energy bill

Start seeing returns from day one

Start seeing returns from day one – Our systems quickly cover their costs and continue delivering profits well into the future.

Protection from rising cost

Protection from rising cost – Energy prices are unpredictable. With solar, you lock in long term savings and protect yourself from future price spikes.

Make the most of every Watt

Make the most of every Watt -Power your home, charge your car, or even earn cashback from your energy provider.

Reduce your carbon footprint

Reduce your carbon footprint – Solar is a clean and renewable energy source.

Increase property value

Increase property value – Homes with solar panels are more energy efficient and attractive to buyers. potentially increasing resale value and market appeal.

Inverters

Your solar panels generate energy, but it’s the inverter that makes it usable. As the heart of your solar PV system, a high-quality inverter converts sunlight into power you can use every day, helping you save more and waste less. It converts DC from the panels to AC electric to be used in the home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will solar panels work in the UK Climate?

Yes. Solar panels work even on cloudy days, they generate electricity from daylight, as well as direct sunlight. The UK gets enough daylight throughout the year to make solar a smart investment.

Savings depend on the system size, energy usage, available sunlight and electricity prices. On average, most houses will fit 10-12 panels saving them around £800.00-£1,000.00 a year.

No, solar PV on its own provides a payback period between 4-7 years on a domestic property and as little as under 3 years on some commercial properties. If a battery is added this can increase payback periods however give you greater long-term savings.
The SEG allows you to earn money by exporting unused electricity back to the grid. Energy suppliers pay you for each kWh you export. Many suppliers pay around £0.15/kwh.

Very little maintenance is required. Solar panels are designed to be low maintenance. An occasional clean is all that is needed.
